Monster Mushroom……

I will write a ‘proper’ post later on as we have a fairly busy day today but wanted to show off my mushroom 🙂 About 3 weeks ago we bought a ‘Grow your own mushrooms’ kit from Aldi.

We had looked at them before but  never bothered, however  at £3.99 we thought we would give it a go. The instructions were very easy, just mix the compost with water and put on top of the mushroom compost then after a few days lift the lid a bit and leave it alone for about 3 weeks. This morning I noticed the lid was a bit wonky so lifted it off and found the reason for the wonky lid was a giant mushroom and next to it 2 smaller ones!

I cut them and measured the large one at 4.5 inches across! The instructions say that we should get 2-3 harvests and already you can see about 7 new ones emerging, and now the monster mushroom has been picked maybe they will have a chance to grow.

One of the smaller mushrooms is a darker brown on top and we think maybe the reason is that it was growing underneath the big one as you can see from the photo. However, they are all firm and seem perfect apart from that. I will cook them tomorrow and update on the taste of them.

That’s so cool!! I’ve never heard of that. Is Aldi’s a grocery store??? Being from the states I’m on the hunt to find some on this side of the ocean. I just found your blog and love it! I’m a new email subscriber 🙂

In the US you should look for a Mushroom growing kit. Normally found at your local garden centre in the form of a log with mushroom plugs.. Aldi and Lidl are a grocery store from Netherlands which are now in the UK.
