The reason behind this blog…

I thought I would explain why we decided to start a blog. Last Christmas Ian was bought a Jack Pyke bushcraft knife from our eldest daughter, Amy, which he had asked for. However, on its first use it chipped cutting a small branch of hazel which Ian wanted to make me a walking stick! As it had a guarantee fortunately it was easy to return but due its inability to cut even a small piece of wood Ian decided to exchange it for a knife building kit. As he usually does, Ian researched knife building thoroughly ( unlike me with my ‘just try it’ attitude 🙂 ) and spent a long time deciding the shape of the handle etc. He took his time and  has now built  an excellent knife and leather sheath. As he was building it  he photographed each stage so that he could write a ‘step-by-step’ guide for others who, like him, had never built a knife before. While he was wondering where to put his ‘guide’ our youngest daughter, Emily, suggested we should write a blog as we have a number of hobbies and interests that others may be interested in reading about. We have never done anything like this before but thought we would ‘just try it’ and so here it is! The knife building guide will be added to the ‘How to..’ section shortly.
